What’s uppppp!

How was everyone’s Valentine’s Day weekend?  Mine was cold.  Very, very, cold.  Just like my love life…  HA HA HA.  Just kidding, sort of.

I don’t know about all of you, but this single-digit cold front has me with a severe case of Spring fever!!  So, with this unbearable weather making me want to hibernate, I put on my best and most hideous flannel pajama set Friday night and stayed in it until this morning.  Also, because I love Me, I ordered myself a nice, romantic, medium-sized pizza and a ginormous piece of chocolate cake on Saturday night.  Pair that with non-stop TV/Netflix watching and I’d say it was an all-around glorious Valentine’s day.  Who needs a man.

But enough about that.  Since I am an avid coffee drinker and am borderline addicted, I wanted to highlight a cool coffee shop I’ve recently discovered in my neighborhood!

It’s called ModCup and it’s every bit of retro/1960’s awesomeness. Only a few blocks away from my Jersey City apartment, ModCup sits across the street from Riverview-Fisk Park which offers the best scenic view of the New York City skyline.  When you walk in you are greeted by the young and extremely friendly staff, and can’t help but look around at the fun 1960’s decor.  Vintage records and books line shelves in the seating area as well as an awesome 1960’s style pod chair!

Not only are these guys determined to brew the best coffee around, but their mission is to bring customers the ultimate coffee brewing experience.  This could not be more apparent during my first visit as they provided me with an artistic yet scientific demonstration while making my cup.  It’s safe to say they live and breathe coffee, scouring countries such as Africa, Indonesia, and places in Central and South America to bring the freshest and finest ingredients.  They also offer brewing classes for coffee enthusiasts!

If you live in or around Hoboken/Jersey City, definitely make a stop at this hidden gem!  Also, be sure to buy some coffee to take home and enjoy or a gift set for the special coffee-lover in your life!

You can discover more about ModCup and their mission by visiting their site here: http://modcup.com/

Below are some pictures I took while there (as seen on my Instagram feed!)

Helllooooo!

Is everyone trying to stay warm?  I can’t get over this coverage of the monster snow storm that dumped on Buffalo, New York!  Unreal!  It’s been super cold in here in NYC, sunny–but cold!  I just hope that snow holds off and doesn’t come my way!  I am so not ready for that.

This week, one of my best friends from college came to stay with me for a couple of days so I was able to take him around and experience some fun things in New York!

First stop, Mexican for lunch!  I can never turn down Mexican food and margaritas.  I’d eat burritos and margs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day of the week if I knew I wouldn’t gain 100 lbs from the delicious-ness.  Just typing this is making me think I should call in an order for lunch.  Yummmm.

When I first moved here, someone recommended a place call Rosa Mexicano (located just blocks from Union Square in Manhattan) for their amazing guacamole.  I loved the vibrant and festive atmosphere of the restaurant and I was definitely not disappointed with the award-winning authentic Mexican cuisine, so I knew I wanted to take my friend there.  Needless to say we both left in a food coma and weren’t sorry for scarfing down that guac like complete hogs.  (links for the restaurant will be listed at the bottom of this post)

Margaritas? YES PLEASE.

After lunch, I wanted to unbutton my pants and take a nap but that wasn’t on the agenda so we decided to be tourists and visit the Empire State Building.  Neither one of us had ever gone inside and if you want to do the whole tourist-y sightseeing thing while in NYC,  you honestly can’t beat the view from the top of the Empire State Building.  It was incredible!

Boston

Last weekend I had the chance to travel to Boston, Massachusetts for the first time!  I was super excited since Boston and Chicago are two U.S. cities I’ve never been to and I’ve been dying to check out.  Luckily for me, one of my best friends Melissa recently moved to Boston so more reason to visit!  However, last weekend I was there for a surprise bachelorette party weekend for one of my other best friends, Katie!

Melissa so was generous in allowing about 11 of us into her new place in Boston for the weekend.  She’s also part of the bridal party and they did an incredible job planning the entire thing and managing to keep this a secret from the bride for so long! Katie was so surprised/shocked/confused!  The perfect reaction mixed with a few tears…it was great.

I was so excited to visit Boston.  Not to sound cliché but I’m extremely passionate about traveling.  There is just something about venturing to new places and experiencing the foods, people, different cultures… it drives me.  This isn’t something new either.  I’ve always dreamed of traveling far and wide and have been fortunate enough to have had parents that took us (me and my siblings) on vacations.  I’ve always wanted to live a jet-set life and so far I’ve done pretty well in accomplishing this on my own.  My dad tells me “Tara, you’re full of wanderlust” and I can’t disagree with him.

Wanderlust /ˈwɒndəˌlʌst/  (noun) 1. A great desire to travel and rove about

Anyway.  I drove there from New Jersey which took me about 4 hours.  Everyone was arriving from all over via planes, trains, and automobiles on Friday evening so we just stayed in and ate food, consumed champagne and wine out of penis straws, and played bachelorette party games.  All while being serenaded by a young gentleman standing outside of Melissa’s apartment building on the street corner wearing a sweater and khakis, playing a piccolo for hours on end.  I’m still being haunted by the music in my sleep almost a week later.  We were told he’s out there every single night and don’t get me wrong, the piccolo is a beautiful instrument and I have nothing against piccolo players but, I’d go crazy having to listen to that outside my home for hours.

Saturday was a fun filled day starting at brunch at The Cafeteria. The food was amazing and I highly recommend their Sangria 🙂 I listed the link to their website:

After brunch we took a tour of the Harpoon Brewery & Beer Hall located in Boston’s Seaport District.  Did some beer sampling during the tour, but to me it was more chugging as many samples as possible.  These were not full beers so I probably went to the bar about 8 times.  After the tour we were able to drink FULL beers and giant delicious soft pretzels in the Beer Hall.

Always keeping it classy.

Next Stop, how can you not visit the bar Cheers!?  Not sure how old some of the people reading my posts are but I sure do remember watching the TV sitcom “Cheers” as a kid.  So visiting this famous bar is a must in Boston!  The original Cheers bar, the one we went to, is on Beacon St. and does not look like the one on the TV show, but someone working in the gift shop told me there is another location that looks like it did on the show.

Cheers! Where everybody knows your name!

Boston was beautiful and so CLEAN!   A very cool city, and so much to do! I will definitely be going back to Boston to see and do more!

Until next time,

Tara

Hello Blog World!

Welcome to my very first blog post!  I have no idea if anyone will ever read this but myself, but hey, nothing wrong with talking (typing) to yourself, right?

So here’s the low-down on me.  My name is Tara.  I’m an almost 28 year old single female hailing from Philadelphia, currently living in Jersey City/Hoboken and working in New York City!   I work in the fashion industry as a buyer and own an online boutique on the side.  I live a extremely busy life filled with traveling, socializing, exploring, style, friendship, love, and adult beverages.  (Lots of emphasis on the adult beverages.)

I’m a creative soul with many passions and a wicked sense of humor.  My blog is to share my life experiences not only with those around me but with whoever cares to read these posts, in hopes that readers will find enjoyment in the many facets of my red-headed world.

Excited to start this blogging journey!

-Tara
